Commentary

In many ways a special song, that became something of a Fjedur signature-melody.

It is my opus 1, written a dark november night 1973 at the grand piano in the vicarage in Malung.

To put the verb "written" in a passive sense is deliberate, this was one of those occasions when the music just landed and I was happy to be there when it happened so that I could catch it and get it down on paper. My first catch, and in some way the one I remember with greatest joy.

My father had taken down the melody from Knekt Lydia, who later became our neighbor on "Gucku-battsin", (the Cucko Hill) in Äsisela, the fäbod out in the woods west of Malung. Lydia had the song from her mother Vittsis Karin, (incidentally grandmother of the masterfiddler Kalle Almlöf).

My father conducted the schoolchoir at Malungs "folkhögskola"at the time and they were going to sing the song in unison for the very first time at the school-graduation in the church. The extraordinary thing was that when they came to the church to rehearse before the graduation ceremony, the church was cleaned up after a funeral that just had finished. It was Vittsis Karin that had been buried. She never got to hear her totally amazing melody performed by someone else, but is surely smiling in her Heaven as the awesome but frail beauty of her song is now shared with the world.
